Shaktipat Meditation

Shaktipat (Saktipata) is a Sanskrit word from the Hindu/Yoga spiritual tradition that refers to the spiritual energy that creates, sustains and directs all life. Shaktipat is used to define “Spirit” or “Kundalini” as an awareness within us that is also all around us, in everything, everywhere, all the time. It is the spiritual force that is guiding all people to enlightenment, and its expression through a human being brings indescribable bliss (Nivakalpa Samadhi). Sakti translates as spiritual energy (spirit) and Pata means to descend or transmit, thus Shaktipat is typically conveyed by a guru or teacher to a chela or student through various means, including: Thought, sight, word/sound or touch. Like picking up a signal from a satellite or radio tower, as the student tunes into the transmission from the teacher they acclimate to the level of consciousness being transmitted and become accustomed to ever higher states of consciousness.

Shaktipat facilitates the awakening of consciousness by drawing out the spiritual energy and awareness of the student. The more open the student is to receive, the more they will receive until there is no receiver or transmitter. Shaktipat is an act of Divine Grace (Anugraha), represented by the Hindu deity Shiva or Siva - the destroyer of illusion, delusion and error - to attain God Realization.

Steven S. Sadleir has met and studied with several spiritual Shaktipat masters including Swami Laksmana Joo of the Kashmir Shaivism lineage, Baba Muktananda and Gurumayi of the Siddha Lineage, Kalu Rinpoche from the Tibetan lineage and Satya Sai Baba the Avatar. Steven apprenticed under Vethathiri Maharishi, a Kundalini Master from Madras, who drew the shakti up the spine through activation of the 3rd Eye and Crown Chakras. The most powerful Shaktipat that Steven has encountered from any Eastern Masters was from Sri Sri Sri Shivabalayogi Maharaj who Steven also apprenticed with for many years and underwent Yoga Tapas sitting in Shaktipat meditation for 23 hours a day for 40 consecutive days and nights.

The purpose of Shaktipat meditation is to raise the spiritual awareness, or calibrated level of consciousness as Dr. David Hawkins would say, to ever higher levels until the state of consciousness is “undifferentiated.” This transcendence from the trammels of the mind and senses to the realization of the self, as the consciousness itself, is enlightenment. While enlightenment itself cannot be understood, it’s affects can be realized and they are truly amazing. Shaktipat enables the aspirant to connect with the Source of all life from within oneself, and is considered the direct path to God Realization. Shaktipat meditation is not practiced to get to some other place, but, rather, to connect with what already is and what you already are. It’s blissful beyond all description.

Steven S. Sadleir is recognized as a Shaktipat Master in both the Tamil Siddha tradition of Vethathiri Maharishi in Madras, India, and with Shivabalayogi Maharaj from Bangalore, India. Moreover, we have several teachers at the Self Awareness Institute that also are trained to give Shaktipat or Diksha (Transmission or blessings at the Crown Chakra). The Self Awareness Institute (SAI) provides means of learning Shaktipat Meditation: Anyone can Google “Enlightenment Radio” and listen to guided meditations and Satsangs (Spiritual talks) with Steven 24/7 for free. SAI also provides free live global teleconferences each month, to get notifications of these free courses with Steven just register to get our newsletter on the homepage www.SelfAwareness.com (typically around the second week of each month). Steven also has several books, CD’s and distance learning programs to develop these techniques, and he periodically takes students who are ready through a 12 week training program, teleconferenced (he sends Shaktipat live over the phone!) called the Self Realization Course. Everyone is welcome.
